Cath & Tony Brewer purchased the property in January 2016, understanding a huge challenge as both were completely new to the industry; Tony is an engineer and Cath a former teacher.
After recruiting a dedicate team of family and friends to help, Brewers Lodge was launched and opened in February 2016 with 16 guest bedroom, bar, function room and restaurant. In the time since it’s opening major work has taken place in the grounds and throughout the building with a complete overhaul of all public areas. The final phase of modernising all 16 guestrooms and bathrooms is underway. Plans include extending the function room to host events, conferences, meetings, parties and weddings.
2016 has seen visitors from all over the world along with many guest travelling for family functions and weddings in the local area. Having travelled for business and leisure for many years, Cath and Tony have an excellent understanding of what travellers want and expect when visiting. They believe that making guests feel comfortable and relaxed when staying away from home is top priority.
Overlooking the bustling town of Blackwood, Brewers Lodge has views across the Mynyddislwyn Mountains and the lush Sirhowy Valley with it’s greenery and farmland as far as the eye can see.
Built over 200 years ago, a map of the area dated 1801 shows the original building as ‘Plas Bedwelty,’ one fo five buildings in the area at the time, belonging to the family of infamous ‘pirate’ Henry Morgan (c.1635-1688). It was formally a farm and then a public house.
